Faith Strategy Task Force

More space means more programs

Why this issue?

All children and youth benefit from after-hours recreational activities in their communities. One of the barriers to providing these opportunities for youth is the lack of space for after-hours programming. Churches and faith establishments present a unique solution to the problem. They are actively known within the community, and they have available space in which to run the programs.

What’s being done?

UpStart is joining forces with individuals and groups who work collaboratively with the faith establishments in the community to run after-hours programs. An analysis of best practices has recently been completed and a collaborative steering committee of key stakeholders will support the work and determine the next steps.

What change will our work bring?

This strategy will open the doors to non-school facilities and increase the availability, affordability and accessibility of space for child and youth recreation providers during the critical hours, when children are out of school.
