Enhancing access to facilities during the critical hours out of school hours.

This two-year pilot project in Calgary and the area served by Rocky View School District will provide children and youth positive development programs and activities during critical hours. Supported through a generous grant from the Ministry of Culture and Community Spirit, this pilot will reduce the fees charged to service providers to rent schools during evenings, weekends and holidays. The evaluation of this pilot will give valuable insight into what is needed at the policy and system level to effectively utilize schools during the critical hours.

Working collaboratively to ensure that children and youth have access to opportunities for participation in positive activities during critical hours.

Calgary AfterSchool, a City of Calgary lead project that helps kids connect to recreation opportunities between the hours of three and six p.m. www.calgary.ca/afterschool

TeenZone is a three-year collaborative demonstration project that creates opportunities for youth ages 11-16 years to participate in high quality after school recreation programs in the communities North of McKnight. The task force will also actively share in the dissemination of the evaluation results and the transition of Teen Zone at the end of the pilot.  www.calgaryteenzone.com
