About the Critical Hours Task Force
Vision:
Calgary’s children have increased opportunities to thrive through participation in safe and productive social, physical, leadership and creative skills during out-of-school hours.
Mission:
Through our collaborative efforts, we will support system, policy and/or practice change to ensure Calgary’s children have access to high quality programs, activities and opportunities during the critical out-of-school hours.
Key Messages
- Critical Hours refers to the out-of-school hours – before and after school, evenings, weekends and holidays – when children and youth make choices to become involved in either positive or negative activities.
- Positive activities such as sport, recreation, art, cultural activities and volunteerism help children and youth make connections with influential adults and each other, build self-esteem, and develop the skills needed for long-term success.
- It’s only through the collaborative effort of leaders, organizations, systems and citizens, that we’ll ensure that our children have access to quality programs, activities and opportunities that are essential to their healthy development.
When our children succeed, we all succeed.
